Rich Media Canvas Templates
During the struggle we had in advertising on mobile where there was no flash support, our team tried to solve this issue for advertisers by creating templates that we guaranteed to work on the latest smartphones. The templates pushed what we could with HTML5, the speed of current devices and asset limitations (images had a Max square pixel amount). We also built in safeties through country and device targeting to ensure we didn't send high payloads of data to places that generally had data caps.
The canvas templates were designed for that "cool" or "wow" effect, that you could do some basic animations and interactions in a more immersive way. These ads were a next step extension of AdMob's interactive ad unit.
My roll in this effort was coming up with 3 out of the four templates and then defining the specifications and adjust the templates to mobile best practices at the time.
